Forces and armed force are semantically related. In some cases you can use "Forces" instead a noun phrase "Armed force".

- Any unit of any armed force in an untenable situation may surrender, from an individual soldier to a platoon to a whole division to the entire armed forces of a state (at which point that state is deemed to have ended its participation in the conflict).
