Attack verb - To criticize harshly and usually publicly.
Usage example: the mayor and all his aides were attacked mercilessly in the press when the scandal erupted

Execrate and attack are semantically related. In some cases you can use "Execrate" instead a verb "Attack".

Usage example: leaders from around the world execrated the terrorists responsible for the bomb blast
