The series as a whole seems to achieve this style by combining Cyber Punk and Clock Punk (embodied by the robotic miscreations found in Incarceron.) The cover art for both books (especially the first) combines imagery of metal gears with barcodes and digital-looking numbers to reinforce the effect.
