Unlike most examples of this trope, the unending night hasn't done it any harm; in fact, the usual Night-That-Never-Ends plot is inverted when one novel's Big Bad plots to call the Sun back to the sky, which would bring disaster.

Phase Three is the later stage, with heroes now policing one another, villains becoming competent enough to score real and permanent victories, and heroes begin dying or suffering other permanent harm while others compromise their convictions when faced with possible disaster.
