Exasperate verb - To disturb the peace of mind of (someone) especially by repeated disagreeable acts.
Usage example: small children can exasperate their parents with endless questions about why this or that is so

Propitiate is an antonym for exasperate.

Usage example: the temple was once the site of sacrifices—both to honor the gods in times of plenty and to propitiate them in times of trouble
