Famished adjective - Lacking money or material possessions.
Usage example: do-gooders who were terribly distraught about the poor in other countries but were oblivious to the plight of the famished families in their own community
Poor and famished are semantically related. In some cases you can use "Poor" instead an adjective "Famished".
