- Most forget it amidst the power and riches they encounter, and don't realise it until much later, if at all.

That some modern readers fail to understand that 'class' in the 1790s was defined by where your money came from, not how much you made, is understandable; but for Lady Catherine to forget it (or at least expect Elizabeth not to realise it) makes her a complete ass as well as a bully.
