Invest
Invest verb - To surround (as a fortified place) with armed forces for the purpose of capturing or preventing commerce and communication.
Usage example: the city was mercilessly invested for an entire year, but never fell
Leaguer and invest are semantically related. In some cases you can use "Leaguer" instead a verb "Invest". archaic substitute
