Level noun - The placement of someone or something in relation to others in a vertical arrangement.
Par
Par noun - Something set up as an example against which others of the same type are compared.
Both words in one sentence
- The easiest way to quickly level a new recruit up to par is by sending them through an old mission with a high-level Cleric leading the way (and drawing all attacks).

If you bother to level him up to be on par with the other main characters, he can be competent in a fight, but most players don't bother since he starts all the way down at level 1 and even when built up he'll still only be an average fighter.
