Protect verb - To drive danger or attack away from.
Both words in one sentence
- Light Is Not Good: Light magic is just as amoral as any other kind, while the Children of the Light, a religious group, are dedicated to protect the populace from misuse of magic and evil gods, and often edge into Well-Intentioned Extremist territory.

This is different from trademarks; if you don't "police" your mark (stop misuse of it), then if there is a lawsuit the court may declare your mark generic (allowing anyone to use it) because you didn't actively protect it, or abandoned (you stopped associating the mark with the good or service).
