Renounce verb - To give up (as a position of authority) formally.

- They threaten to kill everybody who doesn't renounce the "one true God." But, lo and behold, it was actually a Secret Test, and those who hold onto their monotheistic beliefs in the face of death pass (the ones who don't are later executed).
