Pop verb - To break suddenly with an explosive sound.
Usage example: the last strand popped, causing the chandelier to drop to the floor with a great crash
Rive
Rive verb - To cause to separate into pieces usually suddenly or forcibly.
Usage example: road pavement that had been riven by the annual freeze-and-thaw cycle
