Temporal adjective - Having to do with life on earth especially as opposed to that in heaven.

- For much of Japanese history, the Emperor's "rule" was a fiction; Shoguns and other lords for centuries ruled large swaths of Japan (albeit in the Emperor's name) while the Emperor himself was more often seen as a religious leader and icon than a temporal ruler.
