Self-asserting adjective - Having a feeling of superiority that shows itself in an overbearing attitude.
Usage example: a bunch of self-asserting upstarts who thought that they could buy their way into high society

Self-satisfied and self-asserting are semantically related. In some cases you can use "Self-satisfied" instead an adjective phrase "Self-asserting".

Self-satisfied adjective - Having too high an opinion of oneself.
Usage example: a self-satisfied woman who thought that if she could balance two careers, everyone else should too
