Bait verb - To attack repeatedly with mean put-downs or insults.
Usage example: as the first woman to work in the mines, she was mercilessly baited by the men on her shift
Ruffle
Ruffle verb - To disturb the peace of mind of (someone) especially by repeated disagreeable acts.
Usage example: the stream of minor complaints finally ruffled him into snapping, “If you don't like the way I'm doing it, do it yourself!”
