Gird noun - An act or expression showing scorn and usually intended to hurt another's feelings.
Usage example: in her farewell speech, the departing governor got in some retaliatory girds at the media
Put-down and gird are semantically related. In some cases you can use "Put-down" instead a noun "Gird".
